NEW YORK — A boater has been arrested in a fatal crash near the Statue of Liberty that left his wife and three young children unscathed.
Police say that charges against the 39-year-old man are still pending, and they haven’t yet released his name. He was out on the water with his wife, 2-year-old daughter and 2- and 3-year-old sons Friday evening when their 30-foot boat hit a smaller craft.
A 30-year-old man on a 17-foot boat was killed. Two other 30-year-old men on that boat were hospitalized in stable condition.
The Coast Guard, New York Police Department and federal parks police all responded to the scene near Liberty Island in New York Harbor.
