Nigerian prisoner admitted to mental hospital

PANAJI - A Nigerian national, who was arrested for allegedly raping an Australian woman earlier this year, was admitted to a mental hospital Thursday after he allegedly inflicted injuries upon himself in a sudden bout of violence, an official said.

Obi Okofur, 28, had injured himself using the tubelights in his prison cell, a prison official at the Sada sub jail in Vasco said.

“We have admitted him to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) for further treatment. He had suddenly turned abnormally violent. Several guards were needed to contain him,” the official said.
