MUMBAI - The DNA of the psycho-killer arrested in the rape and murder case of three minor girls in Kurla suburb of north-east Mumbai matches with only one victim, a top police official said here Thursday.

“The accused, 19-year-old Javed Rehman Shaikh, cannot be called a serial killer nor can we ascertain that he killed the victim first and then raped her,” Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal told reporters.

“Javed was arrested only yesterday (Wednesday). We presented him in the court today (Thursday) and have got his custody for 14 days. We will investigate the matter and try to reach to the root of the murders,” Dayal added.

“We are conscious that there is still a lot of work to be done. Only the killer of the third girl has been nabbed. The killer of the first two girls is still at large,” Dayal said.

According to the DNA reports, traces of Javed’s blood were reportedly found on the nails of a victim, Nusrat Shaikh.

Giving a brief background of the accused, Dayal said that Javed is from the same neighbourhood and has studied till Class 10.

“He used to lay internet cables and also collected cable bills and cheques,” Dayal said.

Nusrat, who went missing while playing near her house, was found dead in a chawl at Vatsala Tai Nagar June 19.

On Feb 9, the body of a missing five-year-old girl was found in a gunny bag in a building in Nehru Nagar.

On March 7, a nine-year-old girl was found raped and murdered on the terrace of the police quarters opposite Nehru Nagar.
