LUCKNOW - A criminal case has been registered against 15 Uttar Pradesh policemen for faking a gun battle in 2006, officials said Wednesday.
The case was registered late Wednesday at Gomti Nagar police station here by the CB-CID (Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department) officials probing the case.
“Suresh Ganga Pasi, a resident of Unnao district, who carried a reward of Rs.10,000 was killed by a police team in Lucknow’s Vishal Khand area June 8, 2006. But the CB-CID in its probe found that the encounter was stage-managed and not a real one,” Inspector Akshay Kumar told reporters.
“The 15 policemen booked in the fake encounter case include the former Station House Officer (SHO) Gomti Nagar, Ramanand Yadav, sub inspector Anjanai Rai and 13 constables,” said Kumar.
According to police, within a few months of the gun battle, the police administration tasked the CB-CID to enquire into the case as Pasi’s family demanded a probe.
