DHARAMSALA - Thirteen foreigners, including five women, detained for taking part in a rave party Saturday night in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, were let off Monday, police said.

In a crackdown on rave parties, police detained 17 people from the Rait forests near here.

“All the foreigners were let off after they produced travel documents like passport and visa. They were issued warning and their embassies were informed about the incident,” Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Gandhi told IANS.

He said six people were from Israel, five from Britain and one each from the Netherlands and Austria.

“Four locals who organised the party were also detained. Some narcotics were also seized,” he added.

According to police, the people were enjoying a full moon party when police raided the place at around 2 a.m.

Despite police strictness, such parties are common in Dharamsala. Every year the town attracts thousands of backpackers from abroad.

Police say most of the crimes against foreigners in this region are related to consumption and trade of narcotics.
