Couple commit suicide by jumping before train

PANIPAT - A young couple who were in love committed suicide Sunday by jumping before train in this Haryana district because their families were against their marriage as they belonged to different castes, police said.

According to railway police officials, the deceased were identified as Deepak Kumar, 25, and Tina, 18, residents of Dhera village in the district.

“The boy and girl left their village separately in the morning and later met at some place near Samlkha town in Panipat district. From there they went to the railway tracks and jumped before a fast moving train,” said a railway police official.

He added: “They were from different castes. Deepak was from Saini caste whereas Tina was from Lohar caste. Their parents were against the marriage and therefore they took the extreme step.”

The bodies have been sent for autopsy and the relatives of the deceased have been informed.

Panipat is some 180 km from state capital Chandigarh.
