GHAZIABAD - A man was arrested here for allegedly murdering his alcoholic father as he objected to his drinking habits, police said Saturday.

The incident occurred Friday night in Garhi Jassi village in Loni area of the city.

Kanwar Pal Singh was having dinner around 10.30 p.m. with his brother Rajendra Singh, when Kanwar’s son Parwinder came to the room and asked his father to come out, police said.

As Kanwar Pal Singh came out, Parwinder took out a pistol and shot him. He died on the spot. Parwinder then went to the police station and surrendered.

Parwinder was opposed to his father’s drinking habits and despite asking him to quit drinking, Kanwar Pal Singh continued drinking regularly, police said.

“We have seized the body and taken Parwinder into custody. The pistol has also been recovered. A case of murder has been registered against Parwinder,” a police officer said.
