MUMBAI - The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Mumbai Police has arrested two aides of Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar who were trying to revive the criminal network of the absconding mafia don and his close associate Chhota Shakeel in Mumbai, ATS chief Rakesh Maria said Friday.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition were seized from them, he said.

The duo - Nasser Ahmed Shaikh, 35, and Ali Hassan Abdullah Qureshi, 64 - were arrested from Ghatkopar Friday night, Maria said.

The ATS recovered 11 pistols, one carbine and 103 live pistol cartridges from their residence in Patelwadi in Behram Baug area of Jogeshwari west, a north-west Mumbai suburb.

Shaikh is the brother-in-law of Qureshi and was allegedly carrying the arms on the latter’s behalf, according to the ATS chief.

The two were brought before a Mumbai court Friday and sent to police custody till June 28, Maria said.

Apart from reviving Dawood’s criminal network, the duo was also engaged in recruiting youth for underworld activities, he said, adding that further investigations were on.
