Toronto Earthquake Rocks Canada And US

Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com)- Wednesday, June 23, around 1:45 p.m. the Toronto Earthquake shook the city of Canada and its nearby areas. The United States Geological Survey reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.0 in Richter Scale and it struck Southern Ontario, Quebec and large parts of Eastern United States. However the earthquake was initially listed at a 5.5 in Richter Scale but it downgraded a few hours later. The USGS report also says that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 12 miles and shook Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Jersey, New Hampshire and West Virginia.

The Toronto Earthquake did not cause any damage to the lives but the Quebec town councilor said that at least seven buildings were damaged. The earthquake lasted for 30 seconds, it shook and rattled buildings in Ottawa and Toronto. The Government offices across the Ottawa River in Gatineau, Quebec, the Parliament building in Ottawa was evacuated and left for inspection. The workers present at work were sent home as they were terrified by the whole event. The Bergen County Administration Building was evacuated for 20 minutes because of the safety measures.

A number of media sources reported about the Toronto earthquake in the social networking sites. Some roads and local streets were closed to avoid injuries, however, Highway 307, near Bowman, Quebec collapsed because of the earthquake and it became impassable hence the route was shut down. Total emergency is called by the Police for safety of the citizens and school, colleges, rail services will remain closed till the further inspection.
