Report: suspected Kurd rebels kill 3 in bombing
ANKARA, Turkey — A television report says suspected Kurdish rebels have killed at least three people in a bomb attack on a bus carrying military personnel in Istanbul.
CNN-Turk television shows the video footage of the bus after Tuesday’s explosion that shattered its windows and damaged its trunk underneath in a side road in Halkali suburb. It says there is no immediate claim of responsibility but the attack follows a threat by autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels in the southeast to expand their attacks to the west of the country.
Kurdish rebels often target Turkish military vehicles in roadside bomb attacks in the country’s southeast.
The guerillas have dramatically stepped up their attacks this month and killed 13 Turkish soldiers in attacks in the southeast since Friday.
