Teams expected back at W.Va. mine Monday
MONTCOAL, W.Va. — Inspection teams are expected to continue searching the West Virginia coal mine where 29 men died in the industry’s worst U.S. disaster in 40 years.
Owner Massey Energy says the teams are expected to return to the Upper Big Branch mine Monday. Teams of company and government workers are trying to make sure the mine is safe before investigators start looking for clues to the April 5 explosion.
Virginia-based Massey and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration say they found two small spots where coal was on fire, but extinguished them Friday.
