LUCKNOW - Four prisoners escaped from a jail in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura city late Sunday, an official said. Four jail officials were suspended after the incident.

Sachin, Yogesh, Ajai and Awadesh, who were charged with loot, dacoity and other crimes, were found missing from their barrack Sunday evening.

“As of now I can only say that four jail officials have been suspended with immediate effect. A magisterial enquiry has also been ordered into the case,” District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla told IANS over phone from Mathura, some 350 km from here.

“District authorities, police and jail authorities have also initiated an enquiry into the case,” he added.
