SINGAPORE (GaeaTimes.com)- A heavy downpour hit Singapore leading to flash floods on today morning. As a result the low lying regions such as the Orchard Road were flooded. The car parks were affected by the flooding too. PUB the national water agency said in its statement that around 100 mm of rainfall was recorded within two hours which is much higher than the expected rainfall in June. The flash flood made things extremely difficult for the people who were driving cars. Apart from the Orchard Road other areas in Singapore like Kings Road, Coronation Road West, Kheam Hock Road and Fourth Avenue were also affected by the unexpected flooding.

The shopowners in the Orchard Street were left wondering what caused the flood. Some of them never saw such flood in years. The buses also got stuck in mid road because of the water. In several places the water level was knee high making the situation hard for the elderly and the kids who venture out on the streets. Some people were seen wading through the water to help the people stuck in cars come out. The heavy rain also uprooted some trees by roadside.

The Orchard Street flooding caused a number of cars to break down. The motorists had to select alternate routes owing to the flood. The traffic came to a halt and many office goers reached office pretty late. However, the Met office warmed about the possibility of a downpour earlier but no one expected that it will lead to a flash flood. It was a totally unexpected development for many.
