Court sends Assam scam accused to CBI custody

GUWAHATI - A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here Wednesday remanded the two key accused in a multi-crore rupee corruption scam in Assam’s North Cachar Hills to the agency’s five-day custody.

R.H. Khan and his brother-in-law Amjad Hussian were remanded to five day CBI custody a day after Rs.13.45 crore were recovered from Hussian’s house.

Khan, a deputy director of the social welfare district, was chargesheeted by CBI as it was probing a case of corruption.

According to CBI, the deputy director, along with a circle of his colleagues and contractors, had siphoned off a huge amount meant for the development of the hill district.

The amount is understood to have been kept at Khan’s brother-in-law’s house.
