MANILA - Eight people were killed Sunday when a tourist bus carrying foreign students plunged into a ravine in the central Philippines, police said.

The bus was en route to Balamban town in Cebu province, 585 km south of Manila, when the accident occurred, Police officer Arden Trocio said.

Trocio said eight bodies had been retrieved from the ravine, which was about 30 metres deep.

Authorities said the bus was carrying about 50 foreign students, mostly Iranians and Pakistanis.

A local hospital said it was treating at least 30 injured people.
