Searching resumes at daybreak in flooded Ark. area
CADDO GAP, Ark. — The search for victims and survivors of flash flooding at an Arkansas campground has resumed.
State emergency officials say crews will fan out on ATVs, canoes, kayaks and horses to search for people missing since the Caddo and Little Missouri rivers swelled after heavy rains early Friday. The death toll remained at 16 overnight, and on Friday emergency workers said at least 40 people were missing.
The Little Missouri River rose as swiftly as 8 feet an hour for a time Friday, swamping a campground filled with vacationing families. Many were asleep when the floodwaters rose.
Gov. Mike Beebe said he is hopeful there will still be rescue efforts, rather than just the recovery of bodies.
