Obama, British PM Cameron discuss BP oil spill

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron have discussed BP’s need to do all it can to respond effectively to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The two leaders spoke by telephone Saturday for about 30 minutes to discuss the oil spill, Afghanistan and other issues.

Cameron’s office issued a longer statement about the BP discussion. That statement said Obama noted that BP is a multinational company and that frustrations about the spill had nothing to do with national identity. BP formerly was known as British Petroleum.
