GHAZIABAD - Six dacoits armed with pistols, knives and iron rods Friday looted cash, jewellery and other valuables worth over Rs.22 lakh from an industrialist’s house in Ghaziabad, police said.

The dacoits barged into the Rajendra Nagar house of cooker manufacturer Mukesh Sharma, who had gone to attend a marriage function at Rudrapur in Uttarakhand, police said.

In his absence, he had called his sister’s family to stay at his house as caretakers as burglaries regularly occur in the area.

The dacoits kept Sharma’s sister Suman, brother-in-law Virendra Singh, their children Sonu, Nikhil and Anjali, and sister-in-law Laxmi hostage on pistol point. They tied their arms behind their backs and dumped them all in a room.

The dacoits took out all the jewellery worn by the women and that kept in the cupboards.

“They took away precious jewellery worth over Rs.20 lakh and cash of Rs.250,000,” Sharma’s brother-in-law Virendra Singh said.

“We have dispatched teams to nab the criminals. Three suspects have

been detained for questioning,” said Rajiv Kumar Singh Circle Officer.
