ROHTAK - The father of a girl, who had set herself on fire after being harassed by two youths, Friday accused Haryana police officials of being biased and of not arresting the accused.

According to police, the Class 12 student set herself on fire May 31 and she is currently admitted at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) here with nearly 85 percent burns.

“My daughter had taken this extreme step because two youths were harassing her for the last many days. Besides a police official had also harassed her on May 23 that prompted her to make an attempt to commit suicide,” the father said.

“Though police have booked the youths, they are roaming free and nobody is bothered to arrest them. We have also told the name of the police official who was harassing my daughter but no action has been taken against him so far.”

The victim is a resident of Vikas Nagar colony in Panipat district in Haryana.

However, police said they were raiding various places to arrest the accused youths.

“We have booked the two youths identified as Kuldeep Sharma and Ravi Chawla, under various sections, in this case. We are raiding various places to nab them,” said a Haryana police official.
