LUCKNOW - Three criminals wanted in connection with the murder of a Bihar-based businessman have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, police said Thursday.
The three, including Rajneesh Rai, one of the prime accused in the murder case, were nabbed late Wednesday in Pratapgarh, some 150 km from Lucknow, during a joint operation carried out by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Bihar Police.
Rai along with his accomplices had shot dead Kundan Yadav, an automobile showroom owner in broad daylight in April. Yadav was murdered along with his guard at Madhurapur town.
According to police, investigations reveal Rai had killed Yadav over business rivalry pertaining to a contract in the railways.
“Bihar police had sought our assistance in the murder of the Bihar businessman when they learnt that Yadav and his aides were hiding somewhere in Uttar Pradesh,” Brij Lal, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) told reporters here.
“Acting on a tip-off, we carried out a joint operation and arrested the three from near the vegetable market area of Pratapgarh,” he added.
Yadav’s murder had led to scores of people coming out on the streets demanding immediate arrest of the criminals.
Yadav was also associated with former railway minister Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal.
