MUMBAI - A six-year-old girl was killed Wednesday when the roof of a building collapsed here, officials said.

Phagun Gohil was crushed to death when the slab of a balcony crashed on her home in Bharat Bhuvan building in Goregaon, a north-west Mumbai suburb.

Some people, who sustained minor injuries, have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Three fire tenders were rushed for relief and rescue operations, a fire brigade official said.

Suryaprakash Shettigar, an eyewitness, said the building was over 60 years old and in a dilapidated condition.

“A majority of buildings in the locality are in a bad shape and the concerned civic authorities have turned a blind eye to them. The residents here are very angry and we don’t know what will happen when monsoon sets in full-fledged by next week,” Shettigar, who lives in a neighbouring building, told IANS.

This is the second fatal crash in Mumbai, being lashed by torrential pre-monsoon showers, since Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, two minor girls were killed when a wall crashed in the Antop Hill area of central Mumbai.
