Father admits to killing children

MEXICO CITY - A Mexican man, who had claimed his two children had been abducted, has confessed that he killed them and hid their bodies in a city park, officials said.

Javier Covarrubias Gonzalez, 20, confessed to having killed his two children - Isia Liliana and Darien Isai - May 18, the date on which he reported their supposed kidnapping, officials at the capital district attorney’s office said.

Based on his abduction complaint, police launched a search and found a child’s body at a park here in the Mexican capital. They confronted Covarrubias with the news, and the father confessed to having killed the two children.

Covarrubias admitted he strangled his kids in the park, “picked them up and proceeded to hide them in different places, the boy inside the park and his daughter near some towers”, the officials said.

He later described the spot where he had hidden the other body.

Covarrubias had earlier said his kids were not kidnapped but that he has given them to a woman to pay a debt of 25,000 pesos ($1,937).
