RAIPUR - A devastating fire Wednesday in a wholesale shop in a Chhattisgarh town gutted cloth bales worth Rs.2.5 crore, police said. No one was injured in the incident.

The fire broke at a four-storeyed building at Jagdalpur town, some 300 km south of capital Raipur, around noon. The fire was doused after five hours, P. Sundaraj, Bastar superintendent of police, told reporters.

He said that no one injured in the fire and the firemen managed to douse the fire before it spread to a gas cylinders’ storehouse adjoining the cloth shop.

“It would have been a major tragedy had the fire caught on at the gas cylinder godown,” the official said.
