US Trade representative injured in Texas accident
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk has canceled plans to go to Japan after suffering minor injuries in a traffic accident in Texas.
Grand Prairie police say Kirk was injured Wednesday when a metal ladder that had fallen onto Interstate 30 was struck by a tractor-trailer and crashed through his windshield. Grand Prairie is just west of Dallas.
Kirk’s office says he was treated at a hospital and released. He canceled his immediate schedule of meetings and public events, including a trip this week to Japan for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting of Ministers Related to Trade.
Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis will lead the office’s delegation to the APEC meeting.
