Three trains cancelled, 18 diverted after West Bengal mishap

NEW DELHI - Three trains were cancelled and 18 diverted after a Mumbai-bound passenger train derailed and was hit by a speeding goods train in West Bengal, 150 km from Kolkata, killing at least 65 people and injuring 200 early Friday.

Fourteen help lines have also been set up, officials said.

“All the trains cancelled originate from Howrah. The cancellations are for both in-bound and out-bound trains,” an official said. These are the Jan Shatapdi Express to and from Bubaneswar, Howrah-Titlagarh-Howrah Express and Tata-Howrah-Tata Express.

The officials explained that 18 trains were diverted via places like Chandil, Purulia, Adra, Kharagpur, Chakradharpur and Sambalpur.
