BP says it hasn’t decided on video of plug attempt

COVINGTON, La. — BP says it hasn’t decided yet whether to cut off a live video feed when it begins trying to cut off the Gulf oil leak by injecting heavy drilling mud into the well.

Democratic Congressman Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts said Tuesday the company will shut off the video feed supplied by an underwater robot when it begins the so-called top kill maneuver it hopes to try Wednesday.

But BP spokesman John Curry said Tuesday the company is still evaluating whether it will be possible to provide a live feed and no decision has been made.

Markey says cutting off the feed would be outrageous and would block the public’s access to a vital moment in the disaster.

The well has gushed millions of gallons of oil into the ocean since an offshore oil rig exploded April 20.
