LUCKNOW - A Maoist from Jharkhand was arrested in the Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, police said Monday.

Ambar alias Rehman alias Alauddin (32) was nabbed Sunday night from the Kon area, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“Prima-facie, it appears that Ambar came to Sonbhdra to gather information about the police movement and was planning to carry out an attack,” Superintendent of Police P.P. Singh told reporters in Sonbhadra.

A pistol and several live cartridges were recovered from his possession, he added.

According to police, Ambar is also an active member of the notorious Munna Vishwakarma gang and operated in Jharkhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Over six criminal cases are pending against Ambar alone at the police stations in Sonbhadra, police said.
