Car bomb northeast of Baghdad kills 22 people

BAGHDAD — Iraqi officials say a car bomb exploded at an open-air market in a town northeast of Baghdad, killing 22 people and wounding more than 50.

Officials say the blast took place in the town of Khalis, 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Baghdad.

The casualty information was given by police and hospital officials in the nearby city of Baqouba where the dead and wounded were taken.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
