MUMBAI - A refrigerator compressor carried in the luggage compartment of a local train here exploded near Matunga on the Western Railway Wednesday afternoon triggering panic among commuters. No one was injured in the incident, an official said.

The spare compressor was being carried as part of the luggage by a commuter in a Borivli train.

“The refrigerator compressor suddenly exploded, probably because of the gas that was in it, creating panic. As per our preliminary reports, there are no casualties, but we are awaiting details from the concerned officials,” the official told IANS.

However, some television reports claimed that two commuters were injured in the incident.

The official said following the blast, trains on the Western Railway suburban section were delayed by a few minutes.

The blast comes in the wake of a high alert issued in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane since Tuesday following intelligence tip-off of a possible terror attack here.
