NEW DELHI - Three inmates of the Asha Kiran child observation home escaped in the last three days, the Delhi government said Monday as it ordered an inquiry and suspended three caretakers at the home.

The three who escaped were Mahesh, 13, Santosh, 14, and Kamal, 19, Social Welfare Minister Mangat Ram Singhal told IANS.

The three caretakers - Sarswati, Babli and Sanjeev Kumar Sharma - were suspended after the government found security lapses in the incident, a government official said.

Singhal said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

“Besides an inquiry, we have decided to enhance security at Asha Kiran. We have also decided to raise the boundary wall of the centre in a bid to prevent repeat of such incidents,” Singhal said.

While Mahesh was staying at the centre since 2008, Santosh was living there for the past three years, he said, adding that Kamal had earlier also fled from the centre.
