NEW DELHI - Delhi Police said Thursday they have busted an inter-state gang of robbers who used red beacon on their cars to get past checkpoints and one of whose members often wore police uniform.

The gang was involved in several cases of robbery and theft committed over the past few months in the national capital and Haryana, an official said.

Rajesh Kumar alias Durmat (30), Jyoti Prakash (24), Monu (22) and Harvinder (18) were arrested after a trap was laid for them in Bawana area near Rohini Sunday, the official said.

The gang used stolen vehicles to move around the city.

Police said Durmat and his gang were returning from Bahadurgarh in Haryana, where they had wanted to avenge the murder of Durmat’s cousin. The gang’s mission failed.

Police said they seized sophisticated weapons, live cartridges, a stolen vehicle and a police sub-inspector’s uniform from the arrested men.
