NEW DELHI - Four people have been arrested for preparing and marketing spurious industrial oil, Delhi Police said Thursday.

According to police, Bijender, 32, Som Nath, 42, Raghurai, 60, and Rajesh, 32, were arrested Wednesday night from Bawana in north west Delhi.

Twentytwo drums of spurious black oil, 11 drums containing sulphuric acid and 15 drums of paraffin wax were seized, police said.

“A trap was laid after receipt of secret information that a gang involved in preparation and marketing of spurious black oil was active in the area,” a police official said.

“Investigations revealed that the gang had been obtaining refinery waste from a place near Jaipur (Rajasthan). They used to mix sand, soil and water in the refinery waste and heat it to extract a black substance from it.

“They added some chemicals to the black substance to make it look like industrial oil. They then packed it in drums and marketed it,” a police officer said.

“The black oil was used by local PVC manufacturers and other small industries,” he said.
