NEW DELHI - A 22-year-old Bangladeshi criminal who targeted south Indian women because they wore more gold has been arrested here, police said Wednesday.

Mohammad Masoom was arrested while trying to dispose off a stolen computer at a shop in the Pragati Vihar Hostel area Tuesday.

Masoom is said to be involved in 23 cases of burglary, snatching of gold chains and motor vehicle thefts along with two other Bangladeshi citizens.

According to police, Masoom lived near the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi from where he and his compatriots would move to south Delhi on a motorcycle to commit crime.

“They used to target elderly south Indian women in the belief that they wear more gold,” a police official said.
