Andhra forms Road Safety Authority

HYDERABAD - Andhra Pradesh, which accounts for the maximum fatalities from road accidents among all Indian states, Wednesday decided to set up a Road Safety Authority to bring down their numbers.

The government also will also strengthen the Road Transport Authority (RTA) for better enforcement of rules and road safety at a cost of Rs.9.30 crores.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah held a meeting here in view of mounting losses of human lives in road accidents across the state.

According to the the ministry of road, transport and highways, a total of 13,812 people were killed in road accidents in Andhra Pradesh in 2008.
