NEW DELHI - A 48-year-old man was shot dead and his son injured Monday when they resisted a robbery attempt and were fired upon by a motorcycle-borne assailant in the national capital. The assailant has been arrested, police said.

The incident took place at 12.15 p.m. when K.K. Bansal and Nitin, in his 20s, were returning from a bank in Pitampura in north-west Delhi after withdrawing money. They were going to their office in Trinagar.

“The man allegedly fired at them after they resisted his attempt to snatch the money-bag from them. A bullet hit Bansal in the stomach while another hit Nitin’s right hand,” a senior police officer said.

Passersby managed to nab the culprit after an alarm was raised by the Bansals. “They were rushed to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital where the father was declared dead on arrival. The son is out of danger,” the officer said.
