NEW DELHI - A man has been arrested for making a phone call alleging presence of a bomb in the Amritsar-bound Shatabdi Express train. He tried to delay the train’s departure as he was running late for boarding it, police said Saturday.

Jagdeep, 29, a resident of Sant Nagar near Tilak Nagar in west Delhi, was arrested Friday night for making the hoax call earlier in the day.

“We received a call at 7.35 a.m. that the Amritsar Shatabdi Express has a bomb on it, the train was stopped and checked. When nothing was found, we traced his phone number and arrested him,” a senior police officer said.

According to police, Jagdeep confessed that he wanted to catch the train but was late. He thought by making a hoax call, he would delay the train’s departure and catch it.
