NEW DELHI - A member of a gang of bag snatchers from Mumbai was arrested in the Chawri Bazar area of central Delhi, police said Saturday.
“We laid traps at various areas with policemen in plainclothes to nab the bag snatchers. On Friday, one gang member was arrested while he was snatching a bag but three other gang members managed to escape,” a senior police officer told IANS.
He was identified as Aslam, a resident of Thane. The gang used to frequently travel to Delhi and stay at local hotels in Paharganj area.
“They used to select their targets very carefully. Their modus operandi was to select targets who would be carrying bags full of money in the commercial hub of Chawri Bazar,” the police official said.
“We will take a police remand from the magistrate to take Aslam to Mumbai to apprehend the other three members of the gang,” the official added.
