Suspicious package clears Times Square streets
NEW YORK — Police have cleared the streets of Times Square while investigating the discovery of a cooler left on a sidewalk on the same block where a failed car bomb was found over the weekend.
Police say the bomb squad is responding to the area near 46th and Broadway on Friday to examine what appears to be a small, white cooler left on a sidewalk.
Three blocks around Times Square were closed as a precaution because the cooler was found about a block from where a smoking SUV and failed car bomb was found Saturday night.
No other details were immediately available. The call was received around 1:15 p.m.
