Sub-inspector suspended in Delhi

NEW DELHI - A Delhi Police sub-inspector was suspended and two station house officers were given a show-cause notices for not taking adequate steps to identify a body before cremating it, police said Thursday.

“Sub-inspector Maha Singh with the Madhu Vihar police station (in east Delhi) has been suspended and station house officers of Jagatpuri and Madhu Vihar have both been given show-cause notices for not taking proper steps in the matter,” a police officer told IANS.

On April 26, Nagender (21), a computer application student, went missing. His family filed a missing person complaint on the same day.

Meanwhile, police in Madhu Vihar recovered a body at a nearby railway track. According to police, the body was cremated May 4 and adequate effort to identify the victim was not made.

On May 5 when Nagender’s family learnt about the cremation, they along with local residents, blocked the main road for half-an-hour and shouted slogans against the police.
