NEW DELHI - Five Bangladeshi nationals along with their three Indian accomplices allegedly involved in over 200 cases of robbery and dacoity were arrested here, police said Tuesday.

Ikramul Haq, 37, alias Minta, a known Bangladeshi criminal and his accomplices - four from Bangladesh and three from India - were arrested from Vasant Kunj, south Delhi where they had all assembled to commit a robbery in a farm house.

“Our team got secret information that Minta will be committing a dacoity in Vasant Kunj area April 30, and we set a trap to nab him,” a police officer said.

“In recent months, there have been many incidents of dacoity with the same modus-operandi. The dacoits entered the house after cutting the grill and then they overpowered the inmates of the house and tied their hands and legs,” the official added.

“Minta is the mastermind of this gang and he, along with his accomplices, had committed more than 200 robberies,” the officer added.

After committing two-three big robberies, Minta used to go back to Bangladesh with the loot and only return after three to four months, the police said.

Police have recovered jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, four cars, one motorcycle and many electronic items from the accused.
