PANCHKULA - Police Monday seized tiger skin, teeth and other animal parts from a shop here, in a joint raid with a team of animal rights group People For Animals (PFA) from New Delhi.

According to police, the raid was conducted at a shop in Mansa Devi Complex (MDC). One person, identified as Babu Ram, was arrested.

“PFA officials gave us this tip-off and it was a joint raid. We have recovered tiger’s skin and various parts of this endangered animal including 30 nails, 15 teeth and two paws. Besides we have also seized horns of black deer and over 65 shells,” police officer Balwant Singh said.

“The seized material is worth Rs.30 lakh. During the interrogation, Babu Ram said that he used to procure these items from tribal people. Our investigation is under process and we are trying to ascertain his links with other smugglers of this region,” he added

Earlier in the day, PFA and local police had raided another shop in Manimajra in Chandigarh but did not find any objectionable thing there.

“We had information that 30 tortoise of an endangered species were kept in that shop. But we did not find anything there,” a police official said.
