BHOPAL - A district Panchayat member and his brother-in-law were shot dead from point blank range by their political rivals in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhattarpur district, police said Sunday. Twelve people have been arrested for the attack.
“District Panchayat member Mahendra Patel was returning home with his brother-in-law Gopal Patel Saturday night,” Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) U.S. Sikarwar said.
“Mahendra’s rival Dayaram Patel and his accomplices stopped them at Nathpura locality and fired at them from point blank range. Both were killed on the spot,” he added.
Mahendra had contested against Dayaram in the Panchayat polls and won, Sikarwar said.
The police registered a case of murder and arrested 12 people. But Dayaram is on the run.
