NEW DELHI - Speed thrills but kills. The time-worn road safety warning came horribly true yet again when four young men driving their car at high speed were killed early Sunday when the vehicle hit an electric pole and overturned near Ansal Plaza in south Delhi, police said.

“All four died on the spot after their speeding car hit an electric pole and turned turtle. The car rolled over many times before coming to a halt,” a police officer said.

The incident took place at around 12.15 a.m. when the four men were travelling from Panchsheel Enclave towards August Kranti Road in their Hyundai Accent car.

The deceased were identified as Sarabjit Singh, 23, Amarjit Singh, 30, Taranjit Singh, 26, and Gurlin Singh, 24. “They were relatives,” the officer added.

The police didn’t say if the men were under the influence of alcohol.

“Three youths were residents of Gautam Nagar in Delhi while Taranjit Singh was a resident of Jalandhar (in Punjab),” the police officer said.
