MOHALI - The family of an Indian-American doctor, shot dead by his former Chinese colleague, has left for the US to attend his funeral.

Vajinder Pal Toor, 34, was shot by Lishan Wang, 44, five times at the former’s condominium complex parking in Branford, Connecticut, Monday. Wang was sacked two years ago from a Brooklyn hospital after a confrontation with Toor.

Vajinder’s father, Sohan Singh Toor, originally wanted to bring the body to India. But he realized there would be too many legal hurdles.

“Sohan Singh has told us that the body was also not in a condition to be transported,” Vajinder’s uncle Parkash Singh told IANS here Friday.

Vajinder lived in the US with his wife Parneeta Sidhu and their three-year-old son.

“The last rites will be performed in the US. Parneeta is also not in a condition to travel as she is expecting a baby,” he said.

Wang had also fired at Vajinder’s wife, who ducked behind a car to save herself.

A relative said: “Vajinder’s mother was expecting him to return to India in the next few months. She had last met her around three years back.”

Vajinder had graduated from a medical college in Punjab in 2001 before going to the US for higher studies.
