Davy’s extradition after Dannish court case is over: CBI

KOLKATA - Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Ashwani Kumar Saturday said Purulia armsdrop mastermind Kim Davy’s extradition to India would have to wait till the judicial process is over in Denmark as the accused had gone to court against the move.

“Since 2002, we have been asking for his extradition. Now the Dannish government has agreed. But Davy has filed an appeal that he does not want to be extradited. So we have to go to Denmark and fight the case in their courts,” Kumar told reporters.

“I don’t think it will be a lengthy process. We hope we will be able to get him,” Kumar added.

The Danish national, against whom the CBI had obtained an Interpol Red Corner Notice in 2002, recently admitted his involvement in dropping assault rifles, rocket launchers and missiles from a cargo plane onto a field in eastern India in 1995.

Police claim that the cache in Purulia was meant for Ananda Marga, a proutist group.

A Briton and a five-man Latvian aircrew were arrested by Indian authorities shortly after the armsdrop, but Davy alias Niels Christian Nielsen, escaped.
