NEW DELHI - A former police informer has been booked here under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on charges of faking a shootout to grab a property, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said Friday.

Anup Juneja, involved in 48 cases of heinous crimes, was arrested early this week for allegedly faking a shootout in Kalkaji last month.

Addressing a press conference here Friday, Dadwal explained the delay in arrest of Juneja and said: “Perhaps you don’t know but we have already invoked the provisions of MCOCA against Juneja.”

Under MCOCA, a confessional statement given by the accused before the police officer of the rank of deputy commissioner of police (DCP) and above is admissible in the court.

Juneja had allegedly hired criminals from Meerut to stage a shootout in Kalkaji to get a property vacated by getting the property holder arrested in the incident. He allegedly wanted to grab the property.

According to police, Juneja went missing after the incident but was detained at the Mumbai airport while he was coming back from Nepal Saturday night last week. He was brought to Delhi a day later.

Juneja, a former police informer, is known to have slapped false cases against people whose property he wanted to grab.
