Anti-obscene calls cell a hit, says Delhi police chief

NEW DELHI - The anti-obscene call cell of the police here has been a “huge hit” as it has received over 14,000 calls till March, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said Friday.
“Within one-and-half years of its inception, the anti-obscene call cell has been huge hit as it has received 14,171 calls till March. 12,333 calls were registered last year alone. We are overwhelmed with the response, particularly from the Delhi women,” Dadwal told reporters at a press conference here.
“Of the 14,171 complaints, we have taken action in 13,368 cases. Last year, we registered 12,333 complaints, and we took action in 12,103,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told IANS.
The 24-hour helpline launched by the Delhi Police Crime Branch checks complaints from women being harassed by lewd, objectionable and obscene phone calls, besides SMS and MMS.
The victim can register the complaints over phone, by email or SMS. The objectionable message along with the senders’ phone number can be forwarded to the mobile number.
The helpline numbers are 1096, 27894455 and 9911135446. Complaints can also be sent by e-mail to acp-sit-dl@nic.in.
