250 cops fined for traffic violations

NEW DELHI - About 250 policemen and 11 police vehicles have been fined for traffic violations till mid-April this year, Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said Friday.
Replying to claims by the media that several policemen could be seen breaking traffic rules, he said: “We challan (fine) anyone breaking the rules and I personally do not break traffic rules. I believe 250 policemen have been challaned this year till April 15.”
Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said 3,684 policemen were fined and 657 police vehicles prosecuted for violating traffic rules in 2009.
