BHOPAL - A man was killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha town after a scuffle over a water pipeline, police said Wednesday. It is the fifth murder in three weeks over water disputes in the state.

Shivcharan Yadav, 55, had an altercation with his relative Virsingh Yadav over the shifting of a water pipeline Tuesday. Virsingh and his brother Mukesh beat up Shivchanran with an iron rod.

The victim died in a hospital, police said. Vidisha is located over 50 km from here.

This is the fifth case of a person losing his life in fights over water. Madhya Pradesh is facing an acute water shortage, with most towns getting potable water only on alternate days. Residents of 20 towns receive water once in five days.
