Mom arrested in Fresno drowning of infant son
FRESNO, Calif. — Police say a young mother drowned her infant son in a Fresno motel bathtub and drove away, leaving her two other children alone in the same room.
Police Deputy Chief Robert Nevarez says 23-year-old Gabriela Castaneda Espinosa was arrested Saturday after she got into two vehicle crashes.
Nevarez says the woman told crash investigators her children were alone in a motel room and that she had drowned her 2-month-old son.
Police and California Highway Patrol officers found the dead infant in a room at the Economy Inn, where she had checked in Friday night. The two other children are OK.
The mother has been booked into Fresno County Jail for investigation of murder and willful cruelty to a child.
